Human Beings and Intelligent Systems: Frienemies at Home?
The human mind and behaviour are the new scientific frontier. Time is ripe to discuss how humans and intelligent life artificial forms will cohabit. Beyond sensationalist approaches, the artificial mind is here to pervade. In a near future, machines could even be able to detect hidden thoughts and emotions. We should interact with machines and they should watch humans thoughts, feelings and emotions. The human behaviours could inform the machines about the artificial cognitive function to be engineered. Are AI techniques feasible to create a “simulated conscious mind” or “simulated
unconscious intelligence”? Could enrich the human-centred disappearing computing through the artificial acquisition of a “cognitive continuum”? What are the ethical, social, cultural and economics implications of such developments? How M+I+T++ (Multi-, Inter-, Trans- disciplinary) metaphors for intelligent user interfaces could be developed in future emerging technologies such as Ambient Intelligence? How can we deal with the problem that knowledge is a construction improvised by human beings but computer intelligence can only deal with positivist representative facts? How can such systems adapt to and appropriately respond to human behaviour or unexpected environment? What can be learned from nature?
